My sweet Lily. Today turn SEVEN! What a beautiful year this has been for you. It has been chock full of firsts, of growth, of change, of extensive new vocablulary and YOU truly becoming YOU.
This year has been special for you because you want to DO everything. You are fearless, you are adventurous, you are brave, and you are strong. This year you started riding horses. As a mom, I guess I should have some fear of letting my six year old hop up on a horse and ride. However, I trusted you, and I trusted the horse, and I trusted your instructor so much that fear never crossed me mind. Then you got up there with your perfect posture and each lesson your confidence grew. Watching little tiny you control a thousand pounds of horse....wow. Wow. You are a natural, and you made me so proud. I love the care you have in your heart for animals. It is so beautiful to watch.
You are becoming quite the artist, too, my dear. So much so that we started art lessons after school. Watching you grow this creative side makes me so happy. You have such a mature idea of how to place colors together and what will look beautiful. You make such deliberate choices in your art. It is not something you typically see in kids your age. I love your creations so much. I am trying to think of creative ways to display them as I am quickly running out of both refidgerator and wall space!!
My beautiful girl. You are teaching me so much. Sometimes parenting you feels so much more complicated and confusing than I ever expected. I recently began to ubderstand why. In parenting you, I am parenting ME. You are the person in this world most like me. All of your spunk, and sass, and strong will--that came straight from me. We are both creative free-spirits with strong minds and adventurous hearts. We both love to laugh and love to love, and love animals and rainbows and sunsets. For all my flaws, you are all the best of me, sweet girl. When I look at you, my heart swells because I see the little girl I always dreamt of.
Looking at the world through your eyes, I see all the colors of the rainbow, I see flowers, and sparkly blue skies, I see lots of happy faces, and birds singing. Your world is such a beautiful place. You see the goodness. My never ending prayer for you is that you ALWAYS see the world that way. For while I realize that our world is not perfect and there are many things that are heartbreaking and sad--for the most part, the world is good. People are mostly good. It is NEVER a bad thing to believe in goodness and beauty. Soak in all those colors, belly laugh, dance for no reason, sing your heart out, eat cupcakes, and immerse yourself in all of the beauty this world has to give. The way you see the world, Lily, it is the way we should all see it, always.
I hope someday you can truly understand how proud you make daddy and I and how much we love you. You are so very special and everyday you teach us something new. You are magic. You are joy. You are so deeply loved.
